Dr. Staton Awtrey
Dr. Awtrey is a cardiothoracic surgeon and third generation physician. He also has a family legacy of cardiovascular disease and early death; his father died at the age of 46 from complications of a heart attack, and his grandfather, also a physician, died of a stroke long before Dr. Awtrey was born.
When Dr. Awtrey and his wife watched ‘Forks Over Knives’, he learned that a whole food plant based diet prevents, arrests, and can even reverse coronary artery disease. He learned that instead of being incurable and relentlessly progressive as he had been taught in medical school, coronary artery disease is, as Dr. Esselstyn puts it, “a toothless paper tiger that need never ever to exist and if it does exist it need never ever to progress.”
Dr. Awtrey is grateful to Dr. Esselstyn and others who have equipped him to improve the way he practices medicine, and for allowing him to offer hope and enduring health to those he once could only palliate for a time. It is his passion to share the whole food plant based nutrition message and support those embarking on a journey to health.
